Design Considerations

  • Some customers say, "Just do what you think will look best." You’ve put considerable time and energy into making a quilt top, perhaps to celebrate an event or person, to express your creativity, or to try a new technique you’ve learned. Each piece will have a different purpose and emotion connected with it. I will be glad to offer suggestions based on the intended use of the finished quilt and the price you wish to pay.

  • You may already have a clear vision of what you expect your quilt to look like. As we discuss your ideas, I will let you know if I feel capable of achieving your goals. I will be honest in assessing my ability to produce the desired effect or level of expertise. The more precise you can be in your descriptions, the better.

  • I am most comfortable when the quilting choices are ones that help accentuate the beauty of the top rather than just hold the layers together. While some quilts are made to be utilitarian, many others are made for more aesthetic reasons and deserve to be given more than just an allover filler pattern. Most of the quilts I have worked on to date have fallen into this "custom" category. The final quilting choices will, of course be up to the customer.
